Bath Sauerhaft PortraitIn her life and work Beth explores what it means to be truly at choice and whole and living life fully and joyfully, particularly in the face of histories and systems of oppression. Raised in a Jewish working class family in Brooklyn, NY, Beth is the daughter of a holocaust survivor. She is the first in her family to go to college and get an advanced degree. Beth is intimate with what it means to bridge worlds and navigate the terrain between discovering one’s own dreams and carrying the expectations of family, culture and community.

Beth is dedicated to illuminating the hidden sparks of light that she believes live in everyone. She has sparked innovation spanning the fields of women’s and public health, children’s mental health, parent leadership, environmental justice, adult education and worker rights.

In addition to providing one on one coaching, Beth also leads workshops on the principles and practices of coaching.  She facilitates these workshops for teams and organizations and supports Leadership That Works commitment to increasing access to coaching.

Beth launched Coaching for Collaboration, a coaching learning community of early childhood service providers and parents in Alameda County Behavioral Health Care Services in Northern California. In Coaching for Collaboration participants learn and use coaching skills that support them in how they partner with each other in services and in transforming the system to be more driven by the needs of parents.  Beth also co-produced a short film on ‘Co-learning’ a practice she innovated that brings parents and early childhood service providers together to learn how to partner as peers across the divides of power and privilege.

For several years at the Alameda County Public Health Department Beth designed trainings and technical assistance supporting the capacity of staff to reframe public health practices through the lens of health equity and social justice. Earlier in her career Beth founded and directed a non-profit community health and social justice leadership organization training underserved women as participatory action researchers on breast cancer and environmental racism and produced a nationally traveling mural. (WhoHoldsTheMirror.info) Beth also facilitated a Photovoice project supporting SEIU Local 616 homecare workers in creating a multilingual photo exhibit advocating for a living wage, healthcare and dignity.

Beth’s greatest spiritual teacher is her teenage daughter, whom she adopted from China as an infant. Beth lives in the San Francisco Bay Area and has a passion for physical improvisational theater, and embracing the unknown.
